Takachiho Day Trip] Ama-no-Iwato Shrine, Takachiho Gorge, Amaterasu Railway
Takachiho Town is located in the Kyushu Mountains at the northern tip of Miyazaki Prefecture.
Takachiho is known as the "Home of Myths and Legends" and is home to many places that were the setting of myths introduced in Japan's oldest history book, Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters), allowing visitors to enjoy a one-day trip that evokes the romance of the ancient times.
Local products can be purchased as souvenirs at "Michi-no-Eki Kitagata."
After enjoying shopping, visit Amayasugawara Ama-no-Iwato Shrine, which enshrines Amaterasu Oomikami, the deity Amaterasu, who was enshrined in Ama-no-Iwato.
Lunch will be "Miyazaki Beef Yakiniku Lunch" at Zipangu.

You can also choose "Vegetable Cuisine Tanohana" as an option. Taste every bite of this one-plate meal filled with seasonal vegetables and Takachiho beef.

After lunch, enjoy the spectacular view on the "Amaterasu Railway" and pay a visit to Takachiho Shrine, which is designated as a National Important Cultural Property.

(2) Amayasugawara Ama-no-Iwato Shrine
This shrine enshrines Ama-no-Iwato, where Amaterasu-Omikami (the Great Goddess of Amaterasu) was enshrined.
Ama-no-Iwato, the sacred body of the deity, can be viewed from the West Main Shrine (application required).
There is an ogatama tree in the precincts of the shrine. It is said that when Amaterasu no Mikoto (Amaterasu's mother) hid behind Iwato, she danced with a branch of Ogatama in her hand. -
(5) Takachiho Shrine
The shrine is the head shrine of 88 shrines in Takachiho Township, and was founded about 1,900 years ago during the reign of Emperor Taruhito. The present shrine pavilion dates from the 18th century.
The main shrine and a pair of iron guardian dogs in the collection are designated as national important cultural properties.
The main deities are Takachiho no Mikami and Jyusha Daimyojin, and the shrine is widely worshipped as a god of agriculture, purification of bad luck, and matchmaking.
